About me

My working life began in administration. I learned about the internal operations of a business and the experience has been instrumental in setting up and running my practice today. However, administration was not the career I wished to pursue in the long term.

I have always had an interest in psychology and a desire to help people, so I left the office to retrain as a mental health nurse and over the course of my working life I have met many people with a range of difficulties.

In the past 22 years I have worked in both inpatient and community roles and, more recently, higher education, as a mental health mentor. My training in psychotherapy developed this foundation in nursing extensively and, as a result, I have a deeper understanding of the ways in which people communicate.

I think of my practice as a place for the client to tell their story: to talk about concerns from the past or present, deal with times of uncertainty or crisis, or to get to know themselves better. The experiences, thoughts, and emotions that form a person’s story are unique and valuable, and I believe they should remain at the centre of our work together.

However, I also understand how difficult it can be to talk about ourselves with a stranger. We need to feel accepted and supported to be able to do so, and we also need to feel we are being listened to while we are speaking. As an older person with considerable life experience, I bring maturity to my work. Others have commented that my warm nature has put them at ease, and that I have a calming presence. I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental space in which to help my clients explore their stories and make lasting changes to their lives.
